Winter Tablescape with LuRu Home

The holidays and all of the celebrations that come mean plenty of opportunities to host and entertain, making it perfectly acceptable to go all out on decor. The season can inspire some pretty lavish designs, but the excess of reds, greens, golds and silvers make me crave a little calm and simplicity.  

With that in mind, I wanted to design a winter tablescape rooted in cool blues, accents of gold, and pops of pink to keep the setting festive.

Before all of the holiday activities got started, I had the opportunity to meet with LuRu Home - a Brooklyn-based textile company. Their designs are Chinese-inspired, and their core pieces are created and inspired by the tradition of the Nankeen Indigo dyeing technique.These indigo and white table linens made for a perfect ground for the color story off this winter tablescape.

Pictured here are their napkins in the On the Fence pattern and Indigo Foo Dog placemats. Other napkins featured are in their Snow Cone print - available now in a pouch. And the vintage table runner adds a depth of texture that really wraps together the geometric prints with the other pieces on the table. LuRu has a beautiful line of products made from vintage fabrics (check out the selection of pillows and pouches) they’ve discovered and used as influence for their patterns.

Inspired by the processes and patterns of LuRu, a major design element of the table then became the 20+ spools of thread that wove their way through both ends of the table (a pretty great find from a prop sale at work a few weeks ago!). Mimicking the geometric pattern in LuRu’s designs, the spools and gold confetti were a simplified way of interpreting the patterns in the textiles.  

A small collection of bud vases as the floral centerpiece, clean vintage plates from Bennington Potters, and simple placecards served as the final touches to complete the look.
